Results - The Dallas Burston Polo Master 1st/2nd August 2009

Congratulations to Ellerstina
Ellerstina winners of the Dallas Burston Polo Masters 2009
for winning The Dallas Burston Master Seniors Polo Tournament

8 senior players took to the field over the weekend for a 2-day 8 chukka tournament with players ranging from early 50's to well into their 70's. The play was fast and furious as you can imagine, with some of the players coming out of semi-retirement, not that you would know from the standard of polo; it might not have had the speed of the 6 goal, but you could see the years of experience out there on the pitch. La Dolfina worked really hard to try and get a bite into the match relentlessly putting the ball in the opponents goal mouth only to have it ejected time and again by luck, the opposition, or an unlucky bounce. Ellerstina had no such trouble managing to put away an average of 2 goals per chukka, never letting up for a second until the final whistle. The final score being a resounding win by Ellerstina at 16 to 1.

Dallas Burston Polo Masters 2009

The real action happened in the clubhouse afterwards with long tales of years gone by, the amazing goals, great victories, old rivalries and favourite horses. However one thing all agreed on was that however long since they last played, polo lives in the blood and and with smiling faces all vowed to be back next year to defend or compete for the title.

The tournament was played between 4 teams with the qualifiers played on a miserable Saturday with the rain holding off pretty well for most the matches. All teams were very closely matched and places in the final were hard fought for. The Sunday saw a dry day with the occasional shaft of sunlight poking through. The subfinal was very close, both teams defending well with only 1 goal each scored. The final was a close call with El Sosiego nipping at the heels of C.A.N.I. who just managed to defend well enough to hold a half goal lead counting the seconds until the final bell.
